Rexdale is a group of neighborhoods located in the north-western area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This neighborhood area of Toronto is also commonly known as Rexdale-Thistletown or Etobicoke North. The neighborhood Rexdale was named after Rex Deslop and his wife Delma. They were the area’s first real estate developers to the residential areas that built the original suburbs that lie north of Highway 401 and east of Kipling Avenue. The Rexdale neighborhoods are boarded by the Toronto Pearson International Airport and Malton to the west, Etobicoke to the south, the North York district of Toronto to the east and the city of Vaughan to the north.
The suburbia area of Rexdale emerged in the Toronto area in the late 1950’s. The area represented then and still today many ethnicities. This urban community primarily consisted of an English and Scottish population according to the demographics of Toronto during that time. Today it is home to approximately 95,000 residents making up over 30,000 households. Rexdale’s population continues to grow compared to its surrounding communities as it is home to a strong industrial base with office employment.
Rexdale is known as one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the city of Toronto, Canada. A large number of its residents are of Indian and Punjabi decent. These neighborhoods are also home to many Italian residents as well.
